Library Assistants are responsible for a variety of assigned tasks and projects supporting the Access, Technical Services, Archives, and Information & Instruction departments within the library.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS - Responsible to the assigned administrator and has a support responsibility to all other departments and college/university personnel as necessary.
- Responsible for the supervision of work study students as assigned.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Open and/or close the library.
- Provide excellent customer service to library patrons.
- Perform Circulation Desk procedures, such as checking books in/out and finding books for patrons.
- Answer directional questions and refer patrons to appropriate personnel.
- Refer reference questions and literature searches to librarians.
- Answer the phones, route calls, check voicemails.
- Troubleshoot student printing/computer problems.
- Perform various straightening, facing, shifting, and shelving of library materials.
- Search shelves for missing/overdue items.
- Check and fill printers, staplers, etc.
- Supervise Student Assistants.
- Perform various clerical and data entry tasks as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Ability to perform assigned duties with time pressures and frequent interruptions.
- Ability to maintain multiple projects at one time.
- Ability to utilize general office equipment and other necessary equipment.
- Ability to utilize personal computer and various software packages, including Library based software.
- Ability to analyze and resolve difficult problems.
- Ability to work independently and autonomously.
- Ability to calculate and analyze numerical data.
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to sit and use computer workstation for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work various hours as job requires.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Associate degree or equivalent; one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated customer service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT - Performs sedentary to light work in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature-controlled office setting.
- Frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, lift light objects (up to 25 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the workday.
Evening & Weekend Library Assistant - Sunday through Thursday 2:
30 PM - 11:
00 PM.
Weekday Library Assistant - 7:
00 AM - 3:
30 PM Monday through Thursday & 8:
